Gorges du Verdon

Sillans-la-cascade

Turquoise waters like the Verdon

Just 26 minutes from your campsite. This medieval village in Provence, nestling in the heart of greenery, is crossed by the Bresque river with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, just like those of the Verdon gorges. In Sillan la Cascade you will discover two treasures: its spectacular waterfall and its castle surrounded by magnificent ramparts.

In the heart of the village of Sillans la Cascade, the castle, which was rebuilt in 1800, has retained its medieval ramparts. Today, it houses the town hall's administrative services, which organise temporary cultural exhibitions within its walls.

RETURN TO THE VILLAGES of Provence

Behind the castle, the old medieval village begins with a large square. Further on are the narrow streets that trap the cool shade in summer, with a string of tightly-packed houses whose southern-coloured walls sing to your every step.
In the middle of the village, in the main street, a bell tower chimes out the hours, topped by a campanile. The old presbytery, which once served as the post office, sits majestically.

Finally, take the ramparts path along the river to the wash-house. In summer, a small footbridge takes you to the small beach, where you can relax, swim and picnic on holiday afternoons.

To get to the famous waterfall, you can park in Place du 8 mai 45.
This short family walk lasts about an hour. Please note that it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or pushchairs.

There is a signposted path leading to the lookout opposite the waterfall, as the basin is now off-limits due to the risk of falling rocks. The view of the waterfall is magnificent... the river Bresque falls 44 m from the cliffs to form a basin of heavenly blue.

But if you want to enjoy this remarkable site even more, follow the path between the cemetery, which should be on your left, and the olive grove on your right. Let the signs guide you.
You'll be in paradise! Pools of turquoise blue water, greenery, forest, freshness. Swimming in water that's as pure as it is cool.
The site is protected as a Sensitive Natural Area (Natura 2000) for its superb travertine cliffs formed in the limestone river.
