From the 11th century onwards, Regusse became an important centre attached to the Templar Order. Following the dissolution of the Templars, the Seigneury of Régusse passed into the hands of the Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem.

The Commandery of Saint Maurice, built in the commune near the lower gorges of the Verdon, is constructed of dressed stone. A house, an annex, a sheepfold and a chapel can still be seen today.

Regusse is home to numerous remains from medieval times.

- The eastern gateway to the Templar castle, which stood at the corner of the rue des Castellane and the Place de l'Horloge.

- Windmills dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, one of which is still in use today thanks to restoration work carried out in 1995.

- The towers of the Château des Grimaldi, from which, according to legend, an underground passageway led discreetly to the west of the village. Originally, the Grimaldi castle had four towers. Only two remain.

- The clock tower.

- The northern ramparts are very well preserved. One section dates back to the 12th century, while the other, with its battlements and loopholes, was built in the 16th century by Charles de Grimaldi.

- The large arches are remnants of the castle's former stable doors and are accessed through an imposing gateway.
- Notre Dame de la Miséricorde church, originally Romanesque, has been transformed over the centuries. Its characteristic square bell tower is topped by a polychrome varnished spire.

Like all the villages of Provence, it's great to stroll through the shady streets and follow in the footsteps of the Templars...

Before returning to the campsite where your mobile home is waiting for you.

RETURN TO THE VILLAGES of Provence
